A History of the Classical Greek World: 478-323 BC This book gives an accessible account of classical Greek history, from the aftermath of the Persian Wars in 478 bc to the death of Alexander the Great in 323 bc. The author describes the years which witnessed the flourishing of democracy in Athens; the establishment of the Athenian empire; the Peloponnesian War, which involved the whole Greek world; the development of Macedonian power under Philip II; e4 bc a0 e7 bb 9f and the conquests of Alexander the Great. His account combines narrative with analysis, e4 bc a0 e7 bb 9f and deals with major social, economic e4 bc a0 e7 bb 9f and cultural developments as well as political e4 bc a0 e7 bb 9f and military events. Rhodes details the evidence on which his narrative is based, which includes inscriptions, coins e4 bc a0 e7 bb 9f and material remains, e4 bc a0 e7 bb 9f and outlines the considerations which have to be borne in mind in using this evidence.

Diodorus Siculus: Books I-II, 34 by Siculus Diodorus, Diodorus Siculus, Greek historian of Agyrium in Sicily, ca. 80-20 BC, wrote forty books of world history, called "Library of History, in three parts: mythical history of peoples, non-Greek e4 bc a0 e7 bb 9f and Greek, to the Trojan War; history to Alexander's death (323 BC); history to 54 BC. He is valuable for details unrecorded elsewhere, e4 bc a0 e7 bb 9f and as evidence for works now lost, especially writings of Ephorus, Apollodorus, Agatharchides, Philistus, e4 bc a0 e7 bb 9f and Timaeus.
